Ambassador of Ireland to China
Dr Nicholas O’Brien
Welcome message
I am delighted to represent Ireland as Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China. Relations between China and Ireland are strong, vibrant and warm. They are also enduring. I am also delighted to serve as non-resident Ambassador to Mongolia.
China is a valued partner of Ireland and this is reflected in the strength of relations at political, economic and people-to-people levels.
Continued exchanges and communication between our political systems allows a further deepening of our bilateral relationship. We are close trading partners and this can be seen in the ever-increasing levels of trade and investment between our two countries. I am particularly pleased that our four state agencies – Enterprise Ireland, Tourism Ireland, Bord Bia and the IDA, all have a strong presence in China. This allows us work together to continue to deepen our trade and investment links and thereby contribute to increasing levels of economic prosperity in both Ireland and China.
People-to-people links are particularly welcome as a means of enhancing friendship and engagement. We, at the Embassy and our Consulates General, will continue to promote Ireland as a destination for Chinese tourists, businesspeople and students; and encourage cultural and artistic exchange.
I would like to extend a particular welcome to newly-arrived Irish people in China. Please have a look at the resources available on our website and we would be very pleased to hear from you.
Together with our Consulates General in Shanghai and Hong Kong, the Embassy is committed to continuing to work to deepen relations between Ireland and our Chinese hosts. We also have a clear commitment to serving the needs of Irish citizens.
Please enjoy browsing our website.
With kind regards
Dr. Nicholas O’Brien
