With connections dating back to the 10th century Viking settlements, and a shared history within the European Union since joining the European Economic Community on the same day in 1973, Ireland’s relationship with Denmark is strong and enduring.
There is a vibrant, active Irish community in Denmark, who celebrate Irish culture, traditions and sport with their Danish friends and colleagues. An annual St Patrick’s Day Parade takes place in Rådhuspladsen in central Copenhagen, while a network of GAA (Gaelic Games) clubs create connections through our national sport.
Economic links between Ireland and Denmark are stronger than ever, with combined trade in goods of over €1.3 billion in 2023.
