Expo World Choir

Thursday 9th December, Ireland presented the Expo World Choir, a special night of song and celebration of Irish music.
As well as our Expo World Choir, featuring participants from all around the world, this special event featured an all-star Irish ensemble and soloists performing great Irish songs from ‘You Raise Me Up’ to U2’s ‘One’. The event was led and coached by conductor David Brophy, who has worked with artists as diverse as Lang Lang and U2.David is renowned in Ireland for creating special choirs in Ireland where everyone is welcome – no prior singing experience required!
We invited the participating countries, Expo staff, hosts, guests and UAE residents, to come together for this project which embodies Expo’s collective and collaborative ethos. The performance took place at 7.30pm on 9 December, in Dubai.
This incredible event surpassed expectations, with participants of 148 nationalities registering to take part and over 1,000 singers on the night.
About the World Choir Team
David Brophy
The project was led by renowned conductor David Brophy, in partnership with the National Concert Hall of Ireland. David has created mass choirs on a national level in Ireland – for the Irish health service and for Ireland’s national commemorations of 2016. He is one of Ireland’s leading conductors, acclaimed for his work with Sir James Galway, Lang Lang, Danielle de Niese, Nicola Benedetti and others. His broad love of music has seen him work with world stars such as U2 and Sinead O’Connor.
