Visit to Ireland by Delegation of German Parliament and Federal State Employees
The Embassy coordinated a 3-day visit of employees of the German parliament and federal states to Ireland, to provide them with an insight into Irish politics, economy and climate protection measures.
Earlier this week, the Embassy's Head of Political & EU Affairs Máirtín Cronin and Political and EU-Affairs Officer Marcus Hogan led a 3-day visit of employees of the German parliament (Bundestag) and federal states (Bundesländer) to Ireland, to provide them with an insight into Irish politics, economy and climate protection measures.
The wide-ranging agenda involved visits to Leinster House, the seat of the Irish parliament, Iveagh House, the headquarters of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs, the IDA Ireland Dublin Office, ESB, Intel and Bord na Móna.
Some highlights of the trip included:
- Discussing Irish foreign policy with colleagues at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
- Learning about Ireland’s economy and enterprise policy from representatives of the Department of Finance Ireland, Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Enterprise Ireland, IDA Ireland and Bord Bia - The Irish Food Board.
- Gaining an insight into Ireland’s renewable energy sector, discussing ongoing hydrogen research with members of the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications and visiting the Bord na Móna Mountlucas Wind Farm.
The visit was a valuable opportunity for German policy advisors to learn more about the Irish political system, the world-class research taking place in Ireland, and to highlight the importance of Irish-German relations.
