St. Patrick's Day 2023
St. Patrick's Day 2023
In Irish Diplomatic missions all across the world, St. Patrick’s Day—the feast of our Patron Saint, our National Day of celebration, represents the busiest time of the year. Ireland is fortunate that so many of our friends and international partners join us every year to mark the day.
Irish government Ministers traditionally travel to nations all over the world, to join Ambassadors at various events. This year 36 representatives of the State brought Ireland’s message to 74 cities in 44 countries. This year, St Patrick’s Day marked ‘100 Years of Ireland in the World’, a century of our country’s engagement as an active member of the international community in the promotion of peace, democracy, human rights and justice. This year, we mark a number of important milestones which occur this year; the centenary of Ireland joining the League of Nations, 50 years of our membership of the European Union, and the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.
Here at the Embassy of Ireland to the Holy See Ambassador Frances Collins was delighted to be joined by Minister for European Affairs and Defence Peter Burke T.D. .
Minister Burke had the opportunity to meet some of the community at the Ambassador’s reception on 16th March, at the St. Patrick’s Day Mass in St. Isidore’s College, and at lunch in the Pontifical Irish College. He also had a bilateral meeting in the Vatican with Holy See Secretary for Relations with States Archbishop Paul Gallagher.
