Olympics 2024
Just under a year ago, our Embassy was getting set to welcome a record Irish presence at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
‘‘Is there anyone left in Ireland?’’ the stadium announcer asked at one stage, so vocal was the Irish support as we watched our outstanding team, with Rhasidat Adeleke and Ciara Mageean falling just short of podium spots.
We know that both those Irish superstars – and others across track and field, river and ring, pool and pommel horse – are in the shape of their lives entering the Paris games. With over 125 athletes travelling, this will be our largest-ever team at the Olympics and our best prepared. And we’re expecting a noise to match from our legendary fans.
We couldn’t be prouder of our athletes. Or more grateful to the coaches, clubs, families and communities that have backed them all the way to Paris.
From here by the Danube, we’ll be cheering every step of the way over the coming weeks.
And we take the chance to wish their competitors – and fellow sportspeople – from Hungary, Montenegro and Kosovo, every success too.
Allez les verts!
