Primark Opens First Budapest Store
On May 28, 2024, we celebrated the grand opening of Primark's first store in Hungary, located in the Arena Mall, Budapest. Hungary marks the 17th international market for Primark, an international fashion firm best known in Ireland as Penney’s.
Over a thousand people gathered to celebrate the landmark occasion, with Ambassador Ragnar Almqvist cutting the ceremonial ribbon.
In his remarks the Ambassador noted that Irish firms already employ over 4,000 people across Hungary, observing that: “Today, Irish businesses build Hungarian homes, power industry, keep people healthy, and now, with Primark, we will also be clothing Hungarians! It’s a proud moment for the Irish-Hungarian community.”
Recalling the proverb ‘Kicsi a bors, de erős,’ he noted that: “Like the Magyar, we Irish are full of folk wisdom. And just as Primark has grown from its humble beginnings in Dublin to a global presence, our communities continue to thrive together, building strong, supportive relationships.”
Primark's new store, a $8.56 million investment, has brought over 180 new jobs to Budapest and further strengthens Irish-Hungarian business ties. Primark’s entry into Hungary is part of its ambitious plan to expand to 530 stores worldwide by the end of 2026.
