United Nations Volunteer Ciara Patterson explains how her role centred around economic research in Kingston, Jamaica.
Ciara’s most recent posting involved working as the Assistant Development Coordination Officer to the Senior Economist.
She explained: “This role included writing papers and reports on a range of socioeconomic topics as well as managing the Jamaican Economic Panel (JEP).
“The aim of the JEP is to support the development of multi-stakeholder partnerships, in keeping with Sustainable Development Goals 17, to generate creative solutions to address pressing national development issues including topics such as gender equality.
“It was my responsibility to design a monthly survey, collect and analyse the results and write a discussion narrative and public press release that are published on the UNRCO website.
“These were then disseminated amongst government officials, media, non-governmental organisations, and universities to aid better and more informed decision-making on complex issues in Jamaica and the wider Latin America and Caribbean region.”
