Youth worker Rowsheen Chaar talks about her volunteer role in West Africa
The United Nations Volunteer works with young women and men in Dakar, Senegal.
Volunteer Rowsheen Chaar conducts research, regional workshops, prepares speeches and policy reports among other tasks.
She explained: “In my role, I engage with young women and men from the 17 countries of West Africa and the Sahel and sometimes travel in the region to organise meetings and events.
“My position encompasses collaborating across various sections within the organisation, spanning political affairs, climate initiatives, humanitarian efforts, elections, and communications, in turn providing an extensive learning curve across diverse subjects.”
Rowsheen believes volunteering with the United Nations opens up a world of learning.
She said: “Becoming a UN Volunteer is a great learning opportunity, as you are given responsibilities in an international context for sustainable and long-lasting development.
“It is an exciting hands-on experience in a multinational and hard-working environment, which will hopefully facilitate your integration in the next steps of your career.”
