Our World Irish Aid Awards
Primary school pupils in classrooms across Ireland can help make the world better for children around the globe through creative learning.
Children in developing countries are suffering from hunger, inequality and injustice, and rapid climate change is already affecting the next generation.
The Our World Irish Aid Awards challenges our school children, as globally minded citizens, to put the spotlight on these world issues by producing creative projects.
As the next generation of go-getters, Irish school children can help change the world from inside the classroom by first learning the role Ireland is playing in tackling world issues.
Equality for All
Development and Diaspora, Seán Fleming TD invites 3rd – 6th class students across the country to enter the Our World Irish Aid Awards.
Equality for All was the theme for this year’s creations.
Students can allow their imaginations to flourish by submitting projects using film, songs, photographs, poetry, performance, documentary, painting and drawing or even crosswords.
These creative works will bring students’ learning to life and will be displayed in the Global Goal Getters online multi-media magazine.
“A completely child-led initiative”
Previous awards entrant Cecelia Gavigan from Educate Together National School in Balbriggan, Dublin said the project brought great enjoyment to the children.
Cecelia said:
"The thing I like best about the Our World Irish Aid Awards is that it can be a completely child-led initiative.
“As the project can be in any format and on any area related to the theme, you can really hand he reins over to the children and allow them to research, brainstorm, make decisions and direct the project themselves.”
Are you and your class up for the challenge?

Classroom resources
Specially created curriculum-linked class resources were developed for primary schools in Ireland. These were to help teachers and pupils discover more about the theme of Equality of All.
The resources also cover each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Irish Aid’s focus countries.
Background
All countries of the United Nations, including Ireland, are working together to create a better future for all children.
Sustainable Development Goals
In 2015, the United Nations agreed a plan to transform our world by solving our most serious problems such as poverty and hunger, injustice, and damage to our environment. This plan is called the Global Goals for Sustainable Development (SDGs). It hopes to meet the ambitious target by 2030.
At the heart are 17 Sustainable Development Goals is an urgent call for action by all countries, developed and developing, in global partnership.
They recognise that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education and reduce inequality all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
Ireland playing its part
Irish Aid is the Irish Government’s overseas development cooperation programme to fight world hunger and poverty on behalf of all the people of Ireland.
Ireland’s development cooperation programme aims to reduce poverty, hunger and humanitarian need, with a particular focus on sub-Saharan Africa.
By supporting long term development and improving humanitarian assistance, on behalf of the Irish people, we are helping to build better futures for the world’s poorest communities.
Ireland is playing its part in addressing poverty, injustice, and damage to our planet.
