Irish passport redesign consultation
Over 15,000 people worldwide took part in a consultation, selecting native flora and fauna for the redesign of the new passport book.
The Irish passport is a vital document of the Irish State and one of the most secure and respected in the world.
Quality design is central to the integrity and reputation of the Irish Passport.
Between 27 June and 19 July 2023, the Department of Foreign Affairs partnered with RedC to conduct a public consultation to inform the design of the next passport book.
The consultation was made available online in Irish and English and was promoted to citizens living on the island of Ireland and Irish diaspora overseas.
Over 15,000 people took part in the consultation worldwide.
Irish flora and fauna
The results have provided the Department of Foreign Affairs with insights to the flora and fauna that citizens would like incorporated into the new passport design.
The responses demonstrate a consistent picture across age groups, locations and languages with clear preferences for both fauna and flora.
Irish wildlife selection
Irish wolfhound and puffin were popular choices for selection. 2 in 3 selected the red squirrel as one of their favourites. Heather lead with more than half of participants selecting it in their top three.
The Department will now bring forward these valuable insights and integrate the findings, to the greatest extent possible, in a viable passport design.
