Ireland’s Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Minister Roderic O'Gorman, will visit Japan between 14 and 19 March.
His visit is part of the annual global outreach by representatives of the Irish government for Ireland’s national day, St. Patrick’s Day.
During his visit, Minister O’Gorman will engage in a series of meetings and events aimed at highlighting and building upon the strong bilateral relations between Ireland and Japan. He will meet with his counterpart, Minister Ayuko Kato Japan’s Minister with responsibility for Child Policy, Youth Empowerment, Declining Birthrate and Gender Equality to discuss key areas of collaboration and mutual interest.
Minister O'Gorman will also visit Pride House Tokyo, a symbol of inclusivity and diversity, reaffirming Ireland’s commitment to promoting equality and human rights.
He will participate in the St. Patrick's Day celebrations in Tokyo and engage with the local community, celebrating the rich cultural links between Ireland and Japan.
During his visit, a number of meetings will be held with Irish trade and investment partners, in support of Ireland’s growing economic relationship with Japan. The Minister will also travel to Osaka to explore economic and cultural cooperation and exchange opportunities, including launching Ireland’s concept for Expo Osaka, Kansai, 2025.
Welcoming the visit, Ambassador of Ireland Damien Cole said: “This visit underscores the importance of the longstanding relationship between Ireland and Japan. In anticipation of next year’s opening of the new Ireland House Tokyo and Ireland’s participation in Expo Osaka, it reflects our commitment to enhancing the strong collaboration across many sectors.”

3月14日から19日までの日程で、ロデリック・オゴーマン子ども・平等・障がい・統合・青少年大臣が来日します。
オゴーマン大臣の来日は、アイルランドのナショナルデー「セント・パトリックス・デー(3月17日)」を記念して毎年この時期にアイルランド政府閣僚が世界各地を訪問する活動の一環です。
オゴーマン大臣は滞在中、アイルランドと日本の深い二国間関係の強化や発展を図るための会合やイベントに出席する予定で、こども政策、少子化対策、若者活躍、男女共同参画を担当する加藤内閣府特命担当大臣を表敬訪問し、協力ならびに相互利益の主な分野について会談します。
また、オゴーマン大臣は、包括性と多様性の象徴であるプライドハウス東京を訪問し、アイルランドによる平等と人権の促進に対する支持を改めて表明します。
オゴーマン大臣は、東京にてセント・パトリックス・デー祝賀行事に参加し、アイルランドと日本の豊かな文化的つながりを祝して、在日アイルランド人コミュニティや日本におけるアイルランドの友人たちと交流する予定です。
アイルランドと日本との経済関係の発展を図り、アイルランドの貿易・投資パートナーと多数の会合が予定されています。 また、2025年日本国際博覧会(大阪・関西万博)に向けたアイルランドの構想の発表など、経済・文化協力と交流の場を持つため、大阪を訪問する予定です。
オゴーマン大臣の来日を歓迎し、デミアン・コール駐日アイルランド大使は次のように述べています。
「オゴーマン大臣の来日は、長年にわたるアイルランドと日本の関係の重要性を裏付けるものです。 また、来年に迫ったアイルランド大使館新庁舎のオープンと大阪・関西万博へのアイルランドの参加を見据え、多くの分野における二国間の協力関係をいっそう強化する私どもの取り組みを反映した訪問ともなっています。」
