Irish Lace Exhibition "Delicate Beauty" and Lace Workshop in Liepāja
Ambassador participates in the opening of a collaborative exhibition dedicated to the tradition of Irish lace-making.
On 7 June, Ambassador Friel, together with representatives from the Guild of Irish Lacemakers, Liepāja City Council and Liepāja Museum had the pleasure of inaugurating a unique exhibition of Irish lace "Delicate Beauty".
The exhibition, which was two years in preparation, tells the story of Irish lace-making traditions. It features over 50 original handmade laces, made in various techniques, from the 19th century to the present. Visitors can also learn more about the influence of Irish lace in Latvia.
The next day, on 8 June, local crochet enthusiasts had the opportunity to take part in Irish lace-making masterclasses by Máire Treanor, a skilled and experienced lace-maker from Ireland. Máire led the participants in making motifs from Clones lace – the rose and the Clones knot.
The exhibition, created in cooperation with the Embassy of Ireland, Design and Crafts Council of Ireland and the Guild of Irish Lacemakers, will run until 1 September 2024 in the Liepāja Interior Museum “Madame Hoyer’s Guest House”.
