Reading matters!
As part of our series of events engaging younger people with literature and reading, the Embassy organised a teenage book club in the National Library.
Coinciding with UNESCO’s World Book and Copyright Day on 23 April, the Embassy of Ireland collaborated with the National Library of Latvia to hold its first book club gathering for young people. 24 young readers from Āgenskalna ģimnāzija were invited to read “The Wordsmith” by Patricia Forde, Ireland’s Children’s Laureate.
The readers gathered with the Embassy and Library team in the cosy room of the library with great views over old Riga. There they discussed their impressions of the book, its characters and themes, and how they related its relevance to their lives in Latvia. We talked about everything from free speech to climate change and the big question – can one person change the world!
Thank you to all who took part! We hope you enjoyed the conversations!
