Embassy Visits Klaipeda
The Embassy visited Klaipeda on 11 October. The day began with a meeting with General Director of Klaipeda Free Economic Zone, Mr Eimantas Kiudulas. Mr Kiudulas briefed the Embassy on the FEZ current operations and future plans
The Embassy then called in to Palanga Airport to meet with with Palanga Airport Operations Manager, Mr Algirdas Makulavičius and Deputy Director of Palanga Ground Handling Agency, Gintaras Streikus. We were kindly taken on a tour of the airport.
The last stop of the visit was Klaipeda University, where the Embassy was met by Professor Artūras Razbadauskas, Rector of Klaipeda University; Professor Darius Daunys, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, and Inga Petrauskienė, Head of Communications and Marketing. Rector Razbadauskas described KU’s involvement in the EU-CONEXUS (European University for Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability) programme, of which South East Technological University Ireland (SETU) is also a member.
The Embassy then launched the EU50 exhibition ‘Into Europe: Ireland and the EU 1973-2023’ at Klaipeda University. Ambassador MacHugh and Rector Razbadauskas gave speeches at the event, which was attended by staff and students of Klaipeda University.
