EU50 Exhibition Launched at Vilnius University Library
An exhibition celebrating Ireland’s 50th anniversary of EU membership was launched by Minister of State for Law Reform and Youth Justice James Browne TD on 15 September 2023. The ‘Into Europe: Ireland & the EU 1973-2023’ exhibition will be hosted at Vilnius University until 10 October.
In his welcome remarks the Minister reflected on Ireland’s commitment to the rules-based international order and multilateral engagement, referencing the centenary of Ireland’s membership of the League of Nations, which had passed earlier that week. He described the strong support for EU membership in both Ireland and Lithuania and the great benefits that membership had brought to both countries.
Members of the Irish community attended along with officials based in Vilnius and members of staff of Vilnius University.
The exhibition explores Ireland’s relationship with Europe over the last 50 years through several themes including gender equality, education, agriculture, and the Irish language.
The exhibition, which is in Lithuanian, will also be shown in Klaipeda and Kaunas later this year.
