St. Patrick's Day in Mexico City & Costa Rica
The Vice Minister for Finance of Ireland, Jennifer Caroll MacNeill and the Ambassador of Ireland in Mexico, Maeve von Heynitz will host the main celebration of St. Patrick’s Day in Mexico City, and a reception in San José, Costa Rica which will be the first ever attended by an Irish Minister St. Patrick's Day celebration in Central America.
The Vice Minister for Finance of Ireland, Jennifer Caroll MacNeill and the Ambassador of Ireland in Mexico, Maeve von Heynitz will host the main celebration of Ireland’s National Day, St. Patrick’s Day, in Mexico City in the Official Residence of Ireland on Thursday 14 March.
The reception will feature food and Irish drinks, as well as music from Irish harpist Méabh McKenna and the local traditional Irish music band Shamrock. During her stay in Mexico City, Méabh McKenna will give a Masterclass on Irish harp tradition to a group of undergraduate students at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico. During Vice Minister Caroll MacNeill visit, the Irish delegation will attend a series of high-level meetings with the Finance Ministry, Economic Ministry and the National Banking and Securities Commission to discuss our economic and investment relationship as well mutual opportunities in the fintech sector and financial services.
The Vice Minister will also meet with some of the key Irish investors in Mexico, including in fintech. Two way trade between Ireland and Mexico has increased significantly in recent years. Following a 59% increase, good trade in 2023 was valued at €4.5 billion. Two way trade is services is worth another €2.1 billion annually.
In addition to the main celebration in Mexico City, Minister Caroll MacNeill and Ambassador Von Heynitz, will host a St. Patrick’s Reception in the Intercontinental Hotel at San José, Costa Rica, which will be the first ever attended by an Irish Minister St. Patrick’s celebration in Central America. Both Méabh McKenna and Shamrock will perform Irish music at the reception.
In 2022, Ireland launched its strategy for Latin America and Caribbean. This visit is a signal of Ireland’s commitment to developing our bilateral relationship with Mexico, and with the wider Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region.
