Arctic Frontiers Emerging Leaders Programme 2025
Call for Expressions of Interest
As part of Ireland’s continuing focus on Arctic issues, the Department of Foreign Affairs, through the Embassy of Ireland, Oslo and the Marine Institute support the attendance of one early career professional (based in Ireland) at the Emerging Leaders programme in the margins of theArctic Frontiers Conference in Tromsø, Norway.
Background to the Emerging Leaders Programme
Since 2012, Emerging Leaders has been an early-career Arctic mentoring programme for leaders from 18 to 35 years old from the academic, industry, public and NGO sectors. The programme brings together young leaders with indigenous, business, and policy representatives, to learn about the Arctic in a thrilling journey through Northern Norway.
The program will begin in Bodø on 23rd January 2025, continue to Andøya the following day, and finally arrive in Tromsø, where the group will attend the last day of the Arctic Council Youth Conference and the Arctic Frontiers Conference.
Throughout their journey, the participants will exchange perspectives and learn from local and regional Arctic stakeholders in discussions centred around the year’s theme, “A healthy Arctic.” Mentors will support the group, share their experiences, and help the participants prepare for the invaluable experience of attending the Arctic Frontiers 2025: Beyond Borders Conference.
In Tromsø, the Emerging Leaders participants will join the Arctic Frontiers Conference where they engage with various stakeholders to share their expertise and views. Through educational and cultural activities, the Emerging Leaders program serves as an international and cross-cultural platform for networking, and dialogue to support the Arctic leaders of the future.
At Arctic Frontiers 2025: Beyond Borders, there will be seven science themes. These represent the latest developments in Arctic research and span the physical and social sciences, as well as technological developments and innovative methods.
These are:
- Fuelling the Green Transition: Shipping Technology and Infrastructure Developments
- International Polar Year (IPY) V: Research, Data and Science Cooperation
- Metal Pollution and Toxicity in a Changing Arctic
- Ecosystem-Based Management from a Pan-Arctic Perspective
- Environmental Impacts of War
