St Patrick's Day Events 2024
St. Patrick’s Day festivities will be many and varied during what will be a busy week in Norway with lots happening to celebrate Ireland and our Irish heritage.
In Norway’s capital, Oslo, the events get under way from Thursday 14th March with a special public lecture at the Norwegian Maritime Museum where they will be discussing the recent rediscovery of an Irish shipwreck from 1721.
On Friday 15th March Cruinniú agus Tae at St. Olav’s Menighetshus from 19.30 offers a chance for a broad spectrum in the Irish community in Oslo to come together for a cup of tea and a chat in more relaxed surroundings. Like many of the community events taking place this St. Patrick’s Day in Norway, Cruinniú agus Tae is part-funded by Government’s Emigrant Support Programme.
The following day, on the 16th March, the biggest event of the year takes place with the Norwegian Irish Society’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade beginning at 12.00 sharp at Oslo’s Jernbanetorget, which will make its way along the city’s main thoroughfare before concluding at Universitetplass with speeches, Irish dancing and a rendition of the national anthem. Afterwards, The Norwegian Irish Society have organised the annual St Patrick's Family Fleadh at one of Oslo’s most iconic hotels, the Radisson Blu Plaza.
On the day itself on Norway’s west coast, the Bergen Irish society will be hosting their annual parade and family get-together for St. Patrick’s Day on the 17th March. Starting with treats for young and old at 13.00 at Krohnhagn kafé, the gathering will parade through Bergen at 15.00 with Irish Wolfhounds.
To round the celebrations off, back in Oslo, local Irish act Muintir will be in concert at 15.00 along with the Mná Women’s Choir, another ESP-supported project, singing Irish songs and playing Irish music at Frogner Hovedgård.
