Welcome message from Ambassador Buckley
On 31 August 2023, I had the great privilege of presenting my Letter of Credence, signed by the President of Ireland, H.E. Michael D. Higgins to His Royal Highness The Crown Prince Regent, thereby becoming the seventh resident Irish Ambassador to Norway.
Norway and Ireland are small, like-minded nations, with deep bonds of friendship. Like my predecessors, I am committed to further enhancing the long-standing historical ties between our two countries. Ireland’s Strategy for the Nordic Region recognises our shared values - from human rights, to gender equality and a firm commitment to assist those most in need. It looks ahead also and provides a framework for Ireland and Norway to continue to build on these strong foundations, whilst also identifying new areas where we can work in partnership, whether that is on climate issues; scientific research and collaboration and the Arctic.
I am pleased that the economic relationship continues to flourish, with trade, investment, and tourism reaching new levels. Thanks to an increasing number of direct connections from Oslo and Bergen, there are more opportunities than ever for Norwegians to visit Ireland. My team at the Embassy, and our Honorary Consul Mr Gavin Collins in Bergen, will continue to work closely with Enterprise Ireland, Tourism Ireland, Bord Bia and IDA to further develop opportunities for Irish and Norwegian companies.
During my time here I am looking forward to meeting the many friends of Ireland, our Irish community and business groups. By discussing how we can work together to mutually support each other, I am confident that we will see an even stronger Ireland-Norway relationship in the coming years.
We are really active on social media, so whether you are on Facebook, Instagram or X, we have an account for you to follow.
And of course, the Embassy's doors are always open to visitors.
Fáilte isteach! Velkommen!
Claire Buckley
