The International Energy Agency (IEA)
The International Energy Agency (IEA) is a leading inter-governmental organisation, providing policy recommendations, analysis and data on the global energy sector to its 31 member countries and 13 association countries.
Ireland was a founding member of the IEA, which was established in 1974 to help coordinate a collective response to major disruptions in the supply of oil. Since then, the IEA has evolved and expanded significantly and focuses on a range of policies to enhance reliability, affordability and sustainability of energy. The IEA has an essential and expanding role in energy security, decarbonisation, and the fight to reduce energy-related greenhouse gas emissions through safe, sustainable, inclusive, and secure clean energy and green transitions.
Ireland, together with France, will co-Chair the IEA Ministerial Meeting in February 2024, which will mark the IEA's 50th anniversary.
