International Transport Forum (ITF)
The International Transport Forum (ITF) is an intergovernmental organisation with 66 member countries, which acts as a think tank for transport policy and organises the Annual Summit of transport ministers. The ITF is the only global body that covers all transport modes and is administratively integrated with the OECD, yet politically autonomous.
Ireland has a strong connection with the International Transport Forum (ITF) dating back to 2006 when Ireland held the presidency of ITF's predecessor organisation, the European Conference of Ministers of Transport (ECMT). Under the 2006 Irish Presidency, the ITF was formally established by the Dublin Declaration, in which membership of the ECMT was opened to non-European (and non-OECD) countries and its scope was redefined. Ireland most recently held the Presidency of the ITF from 2019-2021 under the theme Innovation for Sustainable Development: Reshaping Mobility in the Wake of Covid-19. Decarbonising the transport sector is a key priority for Ireland and insights from Ireland's partnership with the ITF's Decarbonisation Project are invaluable to domestic policymakers.
