Bloomsday 2024
We are celebrating Bloomsday on Monday 17 June at 18:00, in Ljubljana's Konzorcij bookshop, chatting with Joyce experts and Dublin connoisseurs and listening to traditional Irish music, performed live.
We will explore Joyce's enigma with our distinguished guests, award winning translator Tina Mahkota, who beautifully translated The Dubliners and other works by Joyce; linguist and translator Andrej E. Skubic, who admirably tackled excerpts from the notoriously-difficult-to-translate Finnegan's Wake and Martin Turk, accomplished director of 'Cinema Volta', a documentary about Joyce's own business endeavour in Dublin, fresh from the screening of the film at Dublin Bloomsday Film festival.
Further pieces of the puzzle that is Joyce will be added by Katarina Modic reading the Slovene translation of his children's story The Cat and the Devil [Maček in vrag] while Joyce’s special link with his home city will be depicted by our own Dubliner, Ambassador Adrian Farrell, reading a passage from The Dubliners.
To round the evening off, we will have a taste of Irish music performed live by members of the Noreia band.
The event (in Slovene) will be moderated by Anže Okorn, PhD.
The event is co-hosted by Knjigarna Konzorcij.
See you in Konzorcij, Slovenska cesta 29, Ljubljana.
