Ireland Week 2024 – St Patrick’s Day Events around Sweden
Each year, Ireland celebrates St Patrick’s Day, our national holiday, on 17 March. Ireland Week 2024 runs from Thursday 14 March to Tuesday 19 March with events organised in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö.
St Patrick’s Day is a global event, with many celebrations and initiatives taking place all over the world. Sweden is no different, and there are numerous fun festivities taking place across the country. It will showcase the best that Ireland and our people have to offer in terms of our culture, community, food, drink and innovation.
Stockholm
On Friday 15 March, master brewer Ivan Keane will host BrewFest at Keane Brewing, Agavägen 40, 181 39 Lidingö from 18.00-21.00. Attendance is by ticket only, so get in touch with ivan@keanebrewing.com to secure your place. Sláinte!
Earlier in the day, the Irish Chamber of Commerce in Sweden will host a special St Patrick’s Day luncheon in central Stockholm. Tickets can be purchased at Irish Chamber of Commerce in Sweden - St.Patrick's Day Lunch 2024.
The Swedish Irish Society will paint the city green on Saturday 16 March with their annual St Patrick’s Day festival beginning at 12.00 at Kungsträdgården. The parade itself will start at 15.00 and the fun will continue until 18.30. There will be live performances on the main stage by Irish musicians and dancers, Irish food and drink, a ciorcal comhrá (Irish language conversation pop-up), and face-painting for the kids. Free entry for all!

The theme of this year’s St Patrick's Day programme by the Government of Ireland is "Ireland’s Future in the World”. The Ambassador of Ireland to Sweden, Barbara Jones, and the Embassy team will be attending a number of events during Ireland Week, which will culminate in a school visit in Uppsala on Tuesday 19 March.
Gothenburg
Music lovers are in for a treat with Wexford native Ian Moloney taking to the stage at Byns Bistro on Tredje Långgatan 13 on Thursday 14 (beginning at 20.00) and Friday 15 March (beginning at 22.00). The live music at Byns continues into Saturday 16 March with The Bejeezus Boys dishing out their own brand of popular and entertaining Irish songs and ballads. On Sunday 17 March, Byns will open its doors from 13.00 and welcome families to cheer on the Irish rugby team in their final match of the Six Nations. There will be face-painting for the kids and Irish stew to provide sustenance. Live music with The Beejezus Boys, Ian Moloney, Gray Hawthorne and many more talented musicians will keep everybody dancing and singing from opening time.
On Saturday 16 March, Lindholmen Street Food Market goes Irish and will give a tasting of the best of Irish food and carvery including a little ‘fest’ from 12.00. Drop down for a taste of home!
On Sunday 17 March, The Flying Barrel on Kristinelundsgatan 3 hosts a five-piece Irish Trade band to keep patrons singing and dancing on St Patrick’s Day!
Malmö
The Irish Community in Malmö will host the city’s first ever St Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday 16 March at 12.00 at Magistratsparken. People will gather from all over Skåne, come rain or shine, to mingle and chat over a coffee or juice. There will be plenty activities for children including face-painting and balloons. At 13.30, St Patrick will gather his flock at the foundation at Triangeltorget to start the parade.
