De Vereniging Nederland-Ierland (The Netherlands-Ireland Society)
The Dutch-Irish Society was founded in 1949 as the ''Ierse Vriendenkring''. Its main aim is to contribute to the cultural relations between The Netherlands and Ireland. This is in particular achieved by stimulating mutual interest in Dutch and Irish culture and further development of the ties of friendship between the people of both countries in the framework of a close West European co-operation.
The Society publishes a periodical called ''In-Nuachta'' (that what is newsworthy) presenting a wide range of scientific articles and providing the reader with information on Ireland. There are feature items such as a short overview from the press, book reviews, and articles covering areas such as nature, landscape, environment, history and archaeology.
In addition, the society organises meetings and gatherings for its members; in spring around St. Patrick's Day and later in the year an informal but informative presentation is organised. The society furthermore tries to keep the members informed about Irish related events, lectures and seminars, debates and exhibitions held in The Netherlands.
