Down on the farm
Nestled within the rolling hills of Tipperary, Brookfield Farm is a riot of colour, life, and community. Driven by her goal of bringing agriculture back to its sustainable roots, Ailbhe has worked with everyone from farmers and bee experts (apiarists) to conscientious consumers to ensure that Brookfield’s bees, lambs, crops, and wild flora and fauna can all thrive.
Visitors to the farm are welcomed to open days throughout the year, where they can immerse themselves in craft demonstrations and get a behind-the-scenes look at the running of the farm.
Sustaining a buzz
Bees worldwide are increasingly threatened by environmental factors, chemical use, and a scarcity of flowers, leading to the loss of up to two-thirds of hives annually and a reduced lifespan for queen bees from five to three years.
Under the watchful eye of Gerrard, the native Irish honey bee gets the chance to flourish at Brookfield, busily pollinating in season among wildflower meadows and broadleaf forest. The bees’ hard work keeps the biodiversity of the land rich and contributes to a wonderful selection of natural, traditionally handmade gift products, including beeswax candles, raw Irish honey, balms, and more.
What’s more, Brookfield Farm invites the public to partake in the exciting world of beekeeping with their unique Hiveshare scheme.
In return for an annual contribution, participants receive a yearly supply of raw honey straight from the source while supporting vital bee conservation efforts, ensuring their preservation and a sustainable, biodiverse habitat for future generations to enjoy.
